What businesses, social enterprises and public bodies say about EiA

“I was amazed young people could develop a concept and product for a company like Barclays without thousands of pounds of investment and months of work by employees….I saw real value for the company and not just for the young people”

Patrick Clarke, Director of HR and Communications for EDF Energy

“the advantage of asking people of that age to solve your problems is that they don’t have pre-conceived ideas….what they came up with was incredibly original”

Paul Soor, Managing Director, Volo

“People from our company have got a lot of enjoyment, satisfaction and personal development out of their involvement. Employees gain from it.”

Haydn Abbott, CEO, Angel Trains

“If we can get young people in to Barclays to help us, then as an organisation we can go from strength to strength”

Roger Davis, Ex-CEO, UK Banking at Barclays

“One of the key skills I saw in use was problem solving. The students grasped the challenge then set about taking it forward and solving it. They showed strong research skills and a lot of creativity in producing their own bank advert. Their presentation was delivered in a professional and informed manner and to the right market place.”

Nigel Meffen, Nat West Bank

"It was fantastic to meet such an enthusiastic group from Stockwell Park School. They were rightly proud of the project work that they had done, and were interested in and enthused by seeing how an ad agency goes about its work.“
Chris Cowpe – Ex-Chief Executive - DDB  London

“With both Schools the initial meeting was quite subdued, partly I think due to getting their heads around the challenge and also meeting two Fire Officers, which may have been slightly daunting for them.

“But after our presentations on the following days, the barriers came down and you could see that the topic was firing their imaginations, with many good ideas being put forward.

“By the time Friday came I was so impressed with the enthusiasm of both groups, from the moment they arrived you could tell the challenge had fully engaged their imaginations, I was therefore really looking forward to the presentations.

“The presentations were excellent and showed just how much work all concerned had put in, from the students, teachers and business coaches alike. It was very interesting to observe the change within one week, and from my point of view was a very interesting and productive event.

“Their perspective on the topics made us think again about how to deliver future campaigns.”

Clive Robinson, Community Relations Officer, West Midlands Fire Service

“In both weeks the students excelled and moved from sometimes indifference or ‘attitude’ to commitment, excitement and thought out action.

“The presentations from both schools reflected the difference of attitude and motivation from the beginning of the week. Confidence grew and unlikely characters emerged as leaders.”

Jeremy Walker, Community Liaison Officer / Fund Raiser, Edwards Trust

“I was particularly impressed that the groups had arranged actual fundraising events, which will be or have already taken place during school time.  This took a lot of effort on the students’ behalf to make sure that this could happen in such a short amount of time.  I also really liked the idea of giving out raffle tickets along with the cakes and sweets sold and I will use this idea when selling items in the future.  I also thought that going out to local supermarkets to ask them for donations of food for the “gunge a teacher” was very proactive.

“I was also impressed by the standard of presentation given by one of the groups.  Their demonstration of the problems faced by some children who call ChildLine, the re-enactment of a call to ChildLine and their staging of a “Slave Auction” was very enjoyable indeed.”

Vicky Hindmarsh, Childline, Regional Fundraiser
